Anak Krakatau, located in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra, is a post-collapse cone that has grown inside the caldera formed by the 1883 eruption of Krakatau volcano. The volcano has an infamous past and with the present continuation of activity (e.g. in 2006 and 2008) it also poses a potential hazard in the future through its location in a busy shipping lane between Java and Sumatra.
